Education Programs

General Equivalency Degree (GED) preparation classes are provided for all women. Testing is provided at Emily Griffith Opportunity School and one-to-one tutoring is available through volunteers, churches and the community. A networked computer lab provides GED learning modules and access to the Internet for students. Post-secondary career counseling and assistance with enrollment into Community Colleges and technical education programs is provided through the school. Classes on nutrition and health are available for all participants throughout the year. Life Skills is a comprehensive group focusing on self esteem, assertiveness, communication skills, healthy living, relationships and support systems, time management, STD education, problem solving, money management, stress management and understanding your illness. Parenting groups provide parents with an opportunity to communicate with each other and gather information to assist them in their parenting skills.

Program Population

Women who have been previously incarcerated, women with substance abuse issues, women who are homeless post release, women with HIV/AIDS, women with disabilities (mental, physical, etc).

Program Capacity

150 women per week, unlimited capacity.
